My parents lived at Vinson Hall from 1994 to 2008. We had looked at several places but they immediately liked Vinson Hall more than anywhere – they found it so comfortable. My father had to live in the unit for memory impaired and the staff there really cared for and about him. There are always ups and downs in adjusting to a retirement community but Vinson Hall is like a family – people take good care of each other. Mainly, the care of the administration and staff is excellent. It is a gift to live in a place where people care. If ever there was a concern or issue, I got an immediate response – I was always heard, and that is very important to me.”

Freshmen Day of Service

Monday, September 14, 2009

On September 11, 2009, Vinson Hall Retirement Community partnered with George Washington University in observance of the newly declared “National Day of Service.” The National Day of Service was created to rekindle the spirit of unity that was felt in the aftermath of September 11th.  These young students focused on serving those who have served our country – the veterans and spouses of veterans in the DC area. We hosted 62 freshmen from George Washington University who volunteered their service to our community.  The students were at all three of our residences, Nursing, Independent Living and Memory Impaired residences.  They engaged with residents, participated in discussion groups, assisted with community activities, inventoried trunk rooms, helped individual residents, and added to the wonderful spirit of camaraderie in our community.   We are honored to have partnered with them for the National Day of Service;  transforming a day of sorrow into a day of service.
